Dear Legal Professional,

The American Inns of Court, a worldwide legal organization made up of lawyers and judges, was created to promote civility and professionalism among the bench and bar, to provide mentoring opportunities for lawyers who seek excellence, and to improve the quality of the legal profession – with particular emphasis on courtroom practice. We invite you to read more about the American Inns of Court tradition at: www.innsofcourt.org. There are many American Inns of Court chapters across the Country, including five in Oregon.

The William V. Deatherage Inn of Court will begin its 4th year in September 2015. Southern Oregon lawyers have, thus far, greeted our Inn enthusiastically. Last year our Inn had 75 members, making it one of the largest chapters in the state. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to earn CLE credit while socializing with your colleagues in a relaxing atmosphere along with good food, good wine and stimulating conversation.

Meetings are held the second Thursday of each month from 6-8 pm at alternating venues convenient to the membership. Last year, members enjoyed nine social and educational gatherings at local venues and earned a total of 9 CLE credits.

The Annual membership fee ranges from $190-$275 per year. This amount INCLUDES MEALS AND CLE CREDIT. The CLE credit alone is worth the membership price! We do have some limited scholarships available to help with the cost, and we will also consider a payment plan for attorneys who wish to make two or three payments over the course of the year. Please submit a confidential request for either accommodation along with your application.

Our first meeting this year will be at RoxyAnn Winery, located at 3285 Hillcrest Rd in Medford on Thursday, September 10, 2015 from 6-8pm. The program will feature United States District Court Judge Anna Brown, presenting, “Ask a Federal Judge: (Almost) Anything You Want to Know But Haven’t Had the Chance (or Nerve) to Ask.”

Although still confirming things, we are presently planning other exciting programs this year including (1) How to use humor in the courtroom, (2) Balancing professional and personal life, (3) Preparing the difficult witness, (4) Direct and Cross of a medical expert, (5) Retired Oregon Supreme Court Justice Mick Gillette, (6) How to be better trial lawyers from jurors perspectives, (7) The differences between state and federal court, and (8) Effective verbal and non-verbal communication including tips from the acting world.

We invite you to join our Inn of Court or to renew your membership. Please complete the attached membership renewal or the new member application and return it along with your member dues to Jody Cole at 2592 E. Barnett Rd., Medford, OR 97504. If you renew or join before the first meeting, you will not be charged $20 for the meal. Also, Please RSVP for the meeting to Corinne@andersenlaw.com by September 1, 2015.

Sincerely,

Hon. Mark D. Clarke, President
